3 Advice Tips For People Who Has A Home Based Business And Taxes

This post is about what it takes to succeed if you want to set up business working from home. More and more people are looking at this form of work as it has many advantages to it. There are however many pitfalls and you can easily fall into negative traps which ultimately can end in failure for your small business.

I now work from home and have been self-employed for around ten years. I had previously worked in a large office environment and although the pay was quite good, I soon became annoyed at my long commute to work and also with some of the people I was working with. I have always wanted to be my own boss, set my own hours and be able to take holidays when ever I wanted to. Working from home seemed the perfect answer for me.

I run a small business and do not employ anybody, it is just me. Now you may think that this is great and I have to say for the most part it is. For the business to succeed, I need to work very hard and I need to keep coming up with new ideas to keep myself motivated and to keep the business alive. I have to admit, I am not a Monday person and in the early days I found it very hard to actually do any work on this particular day. Working on my own and not having anyone to answer to made it very easy for me to just go back to bed for example. This of course did not help my business and was something I had to get out of doing.

The first tip therefore, is that you need to have self-discipline to make your home based business work. Each week set yourself business goals of what you want to achieve. Treat working from home like you are working in an office, do not be tempted by watching the television or by any other distraction. You have to ensure you put in the required hours to make the business the success you want it to be.

The second bit of advice is to be careful what you eat. I fell into a trap of eating a lot of snack type foods, and did not ever feel that I had the time to cook myself a meal for lunch. I soon started to put on weight and this caused me to lose some of my self-confidence. I needed all of my self-confidence to keep up my belief that I could succeed at working from home. I now make sure that I give myself an hour break for lunch and to re-charge my batteries. I am also careful not to snack in between meals.

Thirdly you are likely to experience good months and bad months, financially. It is important therefore that you start saving so that when you are having a bad period, you have the cashflow to keep the business going. Also keep some money aside to pay the taxman. When I first became self-employed I loved the fact that I did not need to pay tax each month. When I received my yearly tax bill it was quite a shock however and I have since started to put an amount aside each month to cover it.

Most businesses have these peaks and troughs. When business is not going so well, it is very easy to become downhearted and even depressed. I found this working by myself, I had nobody to pick me up from these lows. I have since realised that feeling sorry for myself is not going to help the situation, therefore I have to work even harder during these periods and that I have to keep thinking positive.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this post and I wish you every success with your home based business.

How To Create A "Unique Selling Proposition" For Your Home Based Business!

No matter what type of home based business you are running (or plan to build) you will likely have competition. Most people think competition is a bad thing – and if you try to take on your competition “head on” it probably is.

On the other hand, you can use your competition to learn how to service customers in a different way – a “unique” way – that can make you very successful!

How Can You Make Your Home Based Business Unique?

For example, selling home videos. DVD’s, and electronic games is nothing new. And unfortunately for most “mom-and-pop” video stores, Blockbuster came along, and put most of them out of business.

So why bother even trying to sell videos and DVD’s, right? Well, it depends.

Opening another video store would probably be difficult – having the ability to order 20-30 copies of all the popular videos would probably be too costly for most people.

But NetFlix didn’t look at competing directly with Blockbuster. The owners decided to rent the same products, but in a completely different way – online and through the mail.

That’s an example of a Unique Selling Proposition!

How can you create a USP (Unique Selling Proposition) for your business?

Answer the following 5 questions:
1. What does your business sell, and who do you sell it to?
2. What benefits (not products or services) does your business offer to your customers?
3. What does your business do best?
4. What part of your business needs the most improvement?
5. What do you offer that you do better –or different – than your competitors?

If you need help coming up with ideas for the last one – which is the most important question to answer – go out and “shop” your competition:
• read their ads
• check the yellow pages
• do a search online and compare websites
• buy a product (or ask a friend or family member, if possible)
• join a small business association

Then, narrow down your USP into one or two sentences, and do it – with every letter you write, every ad you place, every customer you serve, every plan you make – and include your Unique Selling Proposition.

If you can make your business different from the rest – and stand out above the competition – you’ll be well on your way to success!

Are You Thinking Too Small And Dooming Your Home Based Business To Failure?

One problem that many home based business owners run into is simply thinking too small. I often have readers writing to me asking for helping getting their business ideas off the ground. I also often hear from folks who have run their home based businesses into the ground. There are five key areas where you can think too small -- and doom your business to failure.

Niche Too Small
Is your niche too small? Finding a small market to target with your business is key to success, but sometimes people narrow their niche too much. While doggy dental products could be a wonderful niche (as almost any dog owner can attest) you could even narrow your focus down to a certain type of dog (such as lap dogs) but going for one specific breed would be taking it too far.

Target Market Too Small
Is your target market too small? If you are looking only at one community or small geographic region then you may well doom your product to failure. It is far too easy to saturate a small market and it is far too easy for any marketing mistakes to end your campaign before it gets off the ground. In today's economy with the availability of global marketing you need to think big when you are planning your target market.

Budget Too Small
Is your budget too small? You don't need a million dollar advertising budget but you should have some seed money to get your business and its marketing campaign off the ground. It is possible to build a business from nothing but it is also a lot more difficult and you might find yourself making some mistakes that cost you a lot more down the road than putting a little money up front.

Schedule Too Small
Is your schedule too small? Do you have enough time to devote to your business?  Starting, running, and growing a business takes time. Some people get swept up in the planning and dreaming stages and never really start their business. Other people start before they have completely planned everything out and quickly get mired down by unexpected difficulties. While others do everything right in the planning and startup but once the business is running they get overwhelmed by day-to-day business and never think aobut ways to improve and grow their business.

Mind Too Small
Is your mind too small? You need to open up your mind's eye to continually seek new opportunities to find new customers, to find new potential partners, to find new ideas for products, and to find new opportunities for marketing. Flexibility and adaptability are key to surival in today's business climate and you always need to have new ideas cooking to grow and expand your market and your business. This means raising your head up out of the trenches once in a while. Yes, you might need to dodge the occasional missile lobbed your way but this is the only way to see those opportunities heading your way.

If you do your best to avoid these five not-so-small mistakes then you will be on your way to home based business success.

Recently, there has been a shift from corporate dreams to having one’s own, may be a small business. Because, freedom of work is as important as the monetary benefits.

Today, we prefer to a proprietor being self-employed. Late hours, official compulsions and job dissatisfactions leads many of us to something on our own. Besides personal difficulties, as adults we have to oblige our family also. We need to be with our spouse, kids, other members of our family, and friends.

7 Specifications On Finding A Legitimate Home Based Business

There is so much information online it’s amazing. You find something that interests you and you request information and then……you are never there.

• Is it that you are bombarded with calls and emails?
• Is it that you clicked on something but don’t remember?
• Is it that you were in a different state of mind at the time and it’s changed since?
• Is it that there is too much to choose from?

Are you looking to make money online but you think everything is a scam or it’s too good to be true? You have been burned before and it’s a very hard thing to get over. I know. I’ve been there!

Or maybe you want to stuff envelopes or make crafts……

I’ve learned the hard and expensive way. I have yet to find a legitimate envelope stuffing company. If you find a craft to do they are very particular on what they receive. They are so picky that you never get paid and you are stuck with all these crafts. Data entry is another opportunity I have yet to find a real company. The only paying company was through a company my Aunt worked for that I actually got paid for data entry. Otherwise, I never got paid but lost money. You feel violated when you are scammed.

When people ask for more information, why do they ONLY want a quick overview of something?

In order to make an informed decision you need all the facts. You need to do some research:

• Check the company out with the better business bureau.
• Remember products are involved otherwise it’s not legit. Read about those products and see why they are different and if everyone can use them.
Go to their website
• Get a brochure or PDF file with more information about them on it.
• Is it a team environment? Will they help you achieve your goals or just sign you up?
• Do they refund your money and how much time do you have?
• Do they have start-up costs? How much?
• Email, call and ask questions?

When you do your homework by researching and ask questions you have the information to make an informed decision. I’ve learned that when you just want a 5 minute overview you miss a lot of details. Not everything can be summed up in 5 minutes.

I thank you for taking the time to read this over. I hope you have learned something and I hope you use this information to find what you are looking for, freedom to work from home.

This is a category in it's own and getting a good CPA who has experience with home based business tax returns will be essential in order for you to maximize your return for the year.

Reason #10. Wouldn't it be great to retire early.
